CHROMA256b Exhibition & Project - What I have learned
On the 21st September 2016, The Design School of Taylor’s University has gathered all the design students to witness firsthand of the CHROMA256b exhibition and given the opportunity to listen to Kevin Todd's (a Senior Lecturer from University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia) talk to know more about the project on the 22nd September 2016.
When I first set foot on the exhibition in CoDA, all I can see was the colors in tiny boxes and it's experiences. At first, I was clueless until I attended the talk -the next day, and then I understand a little bit more than the day before.
Originally, the goal for CHROMA256b project is to create an awareness of cultural differences in an era when design become international. However, similarities in color response were also apparent in the context of visualization of concept words.
The project highlighted the differences in color sensibility and understanding in each of the eight countries ( Australia, India, South Africa, the United States of America, China, Turkey, Ecuador and Germany) and also three age groups (children, students, elderly). Now, Malaysia is part of the project. The project have a number of components, each designed to apply for a color response and the outcome from each countries will be compared.
For example, the color for "Pleasure" in each country has their similarities like the color red. But words described for "Pleasure" are different in each country like in Australia, many of the respondent wrote down Sex, in Ecuador: Heart, Malaysia: Food, India: Music & Travel which I find really interesting and different, So on and so forth.
As for the color comparison of their Journey from children to the elderly, in China I could see the color journey from the children are more bright colors but as it moves to the elderly, the color become dull and slightly dark compared to the three age groups in Australia, their color journey throughout all ages are similar and bright like the children in China.
Mr Todd, said, some people think that the project have a right and solid answer but no, there is no right or wrong answer to this project and it is not a scientific experiment either. Nevertheless, it is just a sight of curiosity and his theory to the color experience and how it affects people's emotions in which I think I agree on because it is (to me) logical and not nonsensical and that is what I have learned from the two day-experience of CHROMA256b Exhibition & Project.

Photo Gallery Three // 29th September 2016
- The task was about taking pictures of anything around Campus while managing the DSLR Camera, manually.
Photography Shooting: Photojournalism // 4th October 2016
- The task was to shoot 10 good photos of any interesting surrounding and has to be done manually and black & white
- It was held at Little India, Jalan Tengku Kelana, Klang from 12 noon till 4 p.m. .
My Photojournalism Experience;
The photo journalism task on October 4th has taught me so much more about my camera. I know how it suppose to work now, but with the Lumix GF2, I find it hard to set up the settings because of it's automatics. Especially when trying to adjust the shutter speed to capture a beautiful "car speed effect" without effecting the brightness. Therefore, I will work on that by practicing more often and researching which I will do after this. Nonetheless, the experience I had was beyond amazing and I hope to improve my shooting skills in the future.
Cafe Hopping Photographs;
- The task was to shoot 5 photographs of the interiors of cafes and 5 photographs of foods using DSLR (Lumix GF2)

Exploration and some run-through(s)
This was taken at Bayshore Condominium, the house that I grew up in. Everyday, every morning I would wake up to this amazing sunrise. Through the years, I noticed the sun move towards the East (away from Mt. Kinabalu). Few years ago, the Sun was rising alongside the Mountain. It was beautiful.
This was taken at the Botanical Garden Shah Alam. The reason why I chose to capture this is because of the tree trunk with a hole in it. Never have I ever seen such thing in my life. I am aware that it is synthetic/artificial. From my perspective, I see it as a welcome sign to the pathway/ the beginning of the jungle trekking. It is interesting.
Explorations
Levitation
These are just some of my inspiration to the photo shoot topic; Levitation.
Levitation photo shoot plan:
After some long nights of browsing for the "perfect" location to shoot, I have finally decided to choose Sentul Park / KLPAC (KL Performing Arts Center) as the location. Why? because it has the lake, the park, and an interesting abandoned building inside the perimeter of the location which is beyond amazing. I just hope the weather will cope with me while shooting it.
Here are the desired spot @ Sentul Park to shoot that I found on the internet;
20/01/17 - 31/01/17 ; Unfortunate Week.
This week was supposed to be all about assignment week, but unfortunately on this day, my brother was very ill and my sister and I had to take care of him because "Familia son lo promero" that's Spanish for "Family comes first". He is currently going through a disease called the tonsillitis. One of his tonsils (the right one) was infected and now swollen badly. He suffered for two weeks now. Since it is a Chinese New Year Holiday, none of the specialist Doctors in hospitals are available, so I drove him to the ER in Hospital Malaya. The Doctor gave him some good medicine to reduce the pain but after few days, the pain came back. The next day (28th Jan 2017) we went to another ER in SJMC (Subang Jaya Medical Center) and the Doctor told him to continue taking the previous medication and gave him pain killers to "reduce" the pain. One day after that day (30th Jan 2017), we went to SJMC again because the pain was brutal on the night of the 29th. Because my brother could not swallow the pills, the Doctor changed it to liquid medications (except for the antibiotics). He was supposed to be admitted to the hospital but the expenses were too high because we don't own health insurance, so one night in that hospital will cost us roughly RM6000. He was in severe pain until my mother flew from Melbourne to Kuala Lumpur to take care of him so that I can continue with my assignments. Mother arrived at 7AM, 31st Jan 2017. She decided to go on with the operation of his tonsils in Melbourne instead because we will be relocating there very soon. Now with my mother here in KL, I can complete editing my photos and post it online.
Levitation Photo Gallery @ Taylor's University Lakeside Campus
I decided to just take the shots in Campus because I did not want to leave my brother alone at home for too long because Sentul Park was too far from our rented house. I just hope this will work well as planned.
